RoyalsBlue: Wind turbine that can replace up to 16 solar panels

Aeromine Technologies says its new wind turbine, designed to be mounted on rooftops, can replace up to 16 solar panels.

The system uses no propellers or other moving parts outdoors and was developed in conjunction with Sandia National Laboratories and Texas Tech University. Air is directed through channels from aerodynamic surfaces to a hidden propeller at the base of the assembly. Such a system is less dangerous to birds.

That’s why Aeromine claims its turbine is more reliable than conventional ones. What’s more, it is quieter.

The device covers only 10% of the area of a rooftop solar panel that produces as much energy. Between 20 and 40 such systems can provide 100% of a commercial building’s energy needs, says the manufacturer.

At the same time, Aeromine Technologies says its solution generates 50% more electricity than other similarly priced green systems.

The turbine was designed specifically for buildings with flat roofs, such as offices, warehouses or distribution centres.

Typically these technologies are usually announced in the prototype stage, and their merits are exaggerated by their creators. But in this case the manufacturer has an important customer for the turbine.

According to the manufacturer, such equipment is already being tested by BASF Corporation, the world’s largest chemical manufacturer, at its plant in Wyandotte, Michigan.
